After mastering basic strategy, ‘wagering’ or ‘money management’ strategy is next on the list to tackle, especially if you are playing matchplay games. Players will soon realise that it is not only about the hit/double and split decisions but also what staking strategies to use. Good players are able to calculate, for example, towards the end of the set of hands, the stakes they need to place, depending on whether they are ahead or behind in chip terms against an opponent, to ensure their best chance of winning the match.

If, for example, you enter the final hand in a 5-hand match and you have 600 chips and your opponent has 1100 chips you should stake 300 chips even though the maximum stake is 500. This allows you to double down or split your cards when dealt to get your full 600 chips on the table, and thus you have a chance of beating your opponent. Card counting is possible too in our Blackjack product where we use a four deck shoe. Players can gain a slight edge by working out the percentages of high/low cards left in the deck. This can be especially useful in games of 10 hands or more.
